Such a wonderful week I’ve had fun travelling with my cousin Elaine Burke. I left June 26 and picked up Elaine in Arnprior and we headed to Elaine’s daughter, Louise Racine’s, in Norwood near Peterborough, Ont. We stayed overnight with her and her husband Steve. They have the most beautiful home and treated us like queens.
We left the next morning heading to Newcastle to visit Don and Evelyn Mayhew who are Elaine’s first cousin and my third. This is the first time I’ve ever met them and they were the most beautiful people and welcomed me into their home. We had a great meal and an evening playing cards.
The next day we headed to Hanover to see my Aunt Francis and Uncle Roy Mayhew.
Friday we went to Owen Sound and visited with Elaine’s son-in-law Vaughn, his mother Mary Marg and her granddaughter Sarah. What a magnificent view of the water from Mary’s house. We sat there and watched sail boats and yachts and all kinds of watercraft go by as we sat in her living room drinking iced tea.
Everywhere we went everyone was so good to us spoiling us with fantastic meals and snacks. On June 30 it was uncle Roy’s 87 birthday, so four out of his eight children came to help celebrate and visit with Elaine and I. Paul, Linda, Marilyn and Lee with his wife Michelle were all there and we all had a great meal and gave uncle Roy his presents and birthday cake.
Sunday we decided to go to Kincardin on Lake Huron to visit with Ida Stephens and her daughter Karen. Linda came over and visited also and we shared pictures and a lot of old stories. Ida has the most beautiful two bedroom seniors’ apartment in Kincardin.
We didn’t have much time to spend there but we got to see Lake Huron and we also got to see Linda’s house because she lives there, too.
We came back to Hanover and went to Marilyn’s for supper and a swim. Everyone wanted to stay longer at each house but we were only gone for a week. Monday we headed to Oshawa where we stayed overnight with my cousin Bobby Mayhew and his girlfriend Rachel. Then Tuesday morning we headed back home to Arnprior and Campbell’s Bay.
The whole week we never saw a drop of rain and the temperatures soared to the mid 30s but with the humidity it felt more like in the 40s. Best place to be was in a lake or a swimming pool.
This was the first time Elaine and I have ever been on a road trip together and we had a fantastic time. She makes a great travelling companion and conversationalist. We plan on doing many more trips together.
