This past weekend, I attended the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride at the Shawville Fairgrounds. It was raining but the show went on as planned and it was simply amazing. It is such a magnificent show and it was free. It was totally awesome to see.

Flood waters are finally starting to recede and I see some people are posting that they have somebody’s wharf or belongings that have floated down the river. God bless you for being so honest.

I would like to wish a happy birthday to the following people: Melissa Frost on May 30, Sheila Hearty, Heather Romain and André Chrétien all on June 1, Suzanne Ladouceur and Bobby Ostrom on June 2, and Jason Pepin on June 3.

Happy anniversary to Jamie and Jeff Belland on May 2.

It’s nice to be able to finally sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. This only happened on Sunday. This was the first time this year that we’ve been able to do this in any kind of comfort. There were no mosquitoes or blackflies and the sun was out. It was 25 degrees Celsius. We couldn’t ask for much better than that.

I am still unable to plant my garden because the ground is saturated with water. If it would just stop raining it might dry up so I can plant. I’ve started a lot of cherry tomatoes and cucumbers in the house and of course, different spices such as parsley and sage. Rhubarb is now ready so it’s time to put that away in the freezer.

May flowers are out and so are the wild garlic, but be careful. You’re not supposed to have more than 50 of them in your possession at one time.

It’s very funny how the hummingbirds always manage to come back at the same time every year, usually around May 15. It just depends on your area, some come back a few days earlier and are desperately looking for those feeders. They sure need heavy sugar right now because its still cold at night. Please remember to not put food colouring in your syrup because it gives cancer to the birds.

My grandson, Tao Davidson, from Port Carling, Ont. was the lucky winner of the wheelbarrel full of goodies from Animal Aide Pontiac and he was tickled pink. He couldn’t wait to bring everything home so he could start planting. Animal Aide representatives will be going around to different businesses to get donations for the silent auction that will be starting in the middle of June. Please keep your eyes open for this great auction. All proceeds go to help spay and neuter cats and dogs.
