Dear Editor,
On June 23, I had to visit the emergency department of the regional hospital in Shawville and was treated by Dr. Maria Kungurov. She saved my life.
I am very grateful for the services of this hospital which is the closest to where I live north of Otter Lake. It was very busy that day with patients arriving all the time and although it took six hours in emergency I was given ECG, blood tests, an x-ray and CT scan to diagnose the cause of my chest pain.
Dr. Maria took the time to talk to me and order the tests which proved conclusively that my family doctor had misdiagnosed me three days ago with heart problems and given me the wrong medication. She told me to immediately stop taking the nitro for pain and also the pill for my blood pressure which had sent my heartbeat down to an extremely low count.
She concluded from the tests that I had a slightly enlarged liver and referred me to a specialist and prescribed some medicine for stomach acid.
I am very grateful for the services of this hospital and the caring doctor, nurses and technicians. They may be very busy but they save lives every day. I am one of them.
Kathleen Everson,
Otter Lake, Que.
