Quyon – Jillian Young
I hope all of the fabulous moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. We enjoyed a family barbeque at my sister and brother-in-law’s home in Chelsea, and had a great time spoiling the mothers in our family. Thank you to Kara and Chris for hosting us.
It was a special Mother’s Day for Melinda (Moore) and Patrick Marcotte, as they welcomed a baby boy on May 12. His name is Brody, and he is a little brother for Payton and Hailey. His excited grand-parents are Guy and Jo-Anne Marcotte and Don and Judy Moore. Congratulations to the whole family on their sweet little bundle of blue.
On Saturday evening, the Quyon Ferry stayed open late, as there were Stag & Doe parties happening on both sides of the river. On the Quyon side, Gavan’s Hotel was the place to be as a big crowd of family and friends gathered to honour Courtney Tracey and David Hobbs. The Young Bucks provided the music for the evening, featuring local talents Randy Frobel and Rory Mayhew, and everyone had a great time celebrating. Wishing Courtney and David all the best as their big day approaches.
On the Ontario side of the river, a Stag & Doe was held at the Ag Hall in Carp to celebrate the upcoming marriage of Natasha Curley and Tyler Duffy. It was a fun night filled with games, prizes, music, and dancing, as Natasha and Tyler’s loved ones celebrated with them. We send them good wishes as they prepare to say “I do”.
A big shout-out to the Quyon Legion, as they hosted a fantastic Barbotte Supper last Thursday evening. It was their first time holding this supper since 2009, and there was a great turn-out. It was my first time attending a Barbotte Supper, and we really enjoyed it. It was fun to see so many friendly faces out. Thank you to the Legion members and volunteers for all their hard work.
Birthday wishes are going out to Charlotte Nugent on May 16, and to Gracynn Prest on the 18th. Blessings to everyone celebrating this week.
It’s hard to believe the Victoria Day long weekend is already upon us. Here’s hoping for good weather as we look forward to an extra day to relax and enjoy some down time. If you have a chance, there is a Bike Polo Tournament happening this weekend in Quyon at the fairgrounds, which they call “Rumble By the River”. Stop by and take in some of the exciting action. Gavan’s Hotel will also be featuring its first Karaoke Nights on both Friday and Saturday night, so there will be lots of fun happening in town. Have a great long weekend, everyone.

I sure hope that every Mom enjoyed Mother’s Day. I had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. On Friday, we drove to Casselman, Ont. to visit my sister Susan, husband Brent and nephew Jesse Pilon. We had a lovely visit. We spent the night at Mike’s in Embrun. On Saturday afternoon we participated in the Walk-A-Thon to raise awareness of Huntington Disease, at Andrew Hayden Park in Nepean. It was a beautiful day to walk. On Sunday morning, we enjoyed a tasty brunch and a lovely dinner at Rhonda and Mark’s.

Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Aline Rivest (nee Racette)family and friends in the recent passing of her beloved husband Jacques Rivest. At one time, he was the principal at École Secondaire Sieur De Coulonge. He was loved and respected by his colleagues and students.
This coming weekend is the first long weekend of the summer. Many people will be opening up their cottages and campers. Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe.
