Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to the Lavallee family of Chichester, Que. on the passing of their brother, Victor Lavallee. He was the son of the late Laurier Lavallee and Kluana Brunette.

Belated birthday greetings go out to Rosemary Ryan, Vincent King, Merle Smith, Paddy Tallon and Fr. Tim Moyle who celebrated last week. Rosemary celebrated the big one on Thursday with family and friends at the Ancienne Banque Restaurant and then to George’s Bar to listen to the Thursday night jamming.

Birthday greetings and best wishes go out to Hannah Dubeau on May 21, to Laetitia Peacock and Larry Carroll on May 23 and to Paulette Demmons on May 26.

Happy birthday to Joe Smith on May 27. Family and friends gathered at his home on Sunday to celebrate his 80th birthday.

Sam Duff, grandson of Terry and Glenda Duff, was scaling rocks during an off snow training day at Mammoth Mountain, California. They received 12 inches of snow during a blizzard. Wow.

Mark and Jennifer Jennings along with their team of volunteers organized a spaghetti dinner after Saturday evening mass. This fundraiser drew a large crowd. It was a sellout with approximately a $3,000 profit for the Sheen Hall. Ice cream was served to all, compliments of Luke and Dallas Vermette of Sheenboro. Dinner music was provided by Trevor Miller of Hotel Pontiac. Well done.

With a ban on the river traffic and the Fort William wharf completely under water, it sure was strange not seeing boats on this May long weekend. Hopefully the river will return to normal soon and homeowners can relax a bit but there are those who have suffered great losses.

Just a reminder the second of 10 fifty-fifty draws in aid of Residence Meilleur will be held at George’s Bar at 8 p.m. on May 31. The lucky winner will take home half of the proceeds. Last month the winner received $3,700.
