Our condolences go out to Laetitia, Sue, Lisa and the Peacock family on the passing of Hugh Peacock. A funeral service will take place later at St. Theresa of the Little Flower Church in Fort William, Que., with the burial at St. Paul the Hermit Church, Sheenboro.

Get well wishes go out to Earl Lepine who fell and broke his hip. He is currently recovering at the Pembroke Regional Hospital. It is very hard for someone as active as he was to just sit and watch his cottage surrounded by three feet of water with neighbours battling to save his home.

Belated birthday greetings go out to Myra Sullivan, Lorna Agnesi, Sally Lapierre and Ellie Sullivan who celebrated last week. A few of us took Myra for supper at the Waltham Station. It was a great meal.

Also a happy belated to our dear friend Grace Morris Bryson who celebrated her 95th on May 4.

Happy birthday to our granddaughter Brittany on May 8 and to our son Tim who celebrates the big one on May 9.

Birthday greetings and best wishes go out to Terry Duff and his daughter-in-law Sylvianne on May 11 and to Faith Fitzpatrick, Tim McDonald and Rowan Sullivan on May 12.

Friends and family were hard hit with the flooding up and down the Pontiac. One never knows what Mother Nature has in store for us but the number of volunteers who came out to help in the past two weeks was tremendous and heart warming. We were also very thankful for having the Canadian Armed Forces come to our aid. Pontiac Ouest Fire Services and the Emergency Disaster Coordinators for the three municipalities have been basically working around the clock.

In Sheenboro a new resident on Lew Miller Road was flooded out. We have a resident on Tripp Road, although not affected by the river, who is still battling the ground water. It seems that the large pool of water that was on Tripp Road has now found a route to their basement. They have four pumps running day and night and are still having trouble keeping ahead of the water.

On a good note, congratulations go out to Danny Isabelle who won the first of ten 50/50 draws supporting Residence Meilleur. The draw was made at George’s Bar in Chichester, Que. on April 26. $7,200.00 was split – $3,600.00 for Residence Meilleur and $3,600.00 for the winner. The next draw will be the end of May.

Just a reminder that it is not wise to start removing your sandbags yet. The river, as of Monday morning in Fort William was still rising.
