Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to the Fleury family of Chapeau, Que. on the passing of Lorenzo Fleury (Rozo). His . . .

funeral will take place at St. Alphonsus Church on Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. Back in the 1980s, Roso volunteered many hours of his time grooming trails for the Pingouin Snowmobile Club. He groomed from Waltham to Black River toward Lake St. Patrick and would circle back into Sheenboro and then home. This was a giant step for the club.

Our condolences also go out to the Wilson family on the passing of Brian Wilson of Cobden, Ont. For many years he was the life of the fiddle group at the Wednesday night jams at George’s Bar.

Get well wishes go out to Mary McLeese of Ottawa, Ont. who is currently at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

Birthday greetings and best wishes go out to Ivon Nephin Kohlsmith who celebrated her 97th on Dec. 5. Her family celebrated her birthday with a nice dinner at Anthony’s Restaurant in Pembroke. Her youngest sister Claire and her husband Jim VanderEnde from Bowmanville, Ont. were also there for the celebration.

Belated birthday greetings go out to Jean Kargus, sister of Mary Mcleese, to Tom Donlan of Montreal and my little great- nephew Dillon Jack VanNuland who celebrated his first birthday.

Birthday celebrations this coming week are Betty Morris on Dec. 9, Jerry Muldoon on Dec. 11, Jim Sulllivan on Dec. 12, Ryan Vellenga and Courtney Jennings Bertrand on Dec. 14 and Lois Lapierre and Art McGuire on Dec. 16. Enjoy your day.

The Residence Meilleur Committee served a turkey dinner to the residents and their guests this past Saturday. Entertainment was provided by Gail Gaven who was accompanied by the Upper Pontiac fiddlers with Jewel Rogers on piano. The entertainment room is now fully furnished, mostly by generous donors. The final piece, a lovely piano donated by Ann Meilleur, arrived just in time for the party.

On Wednesday, the Young at Heart of Chapeau and area also celebrated the season with a delicious roast beef dinner served by Cheryl and her helpers. The music was provided by Larry Turner who is always willing to volunteer his time. We are very fortunate to have these wonderful musicians. The 50/50 draw was won by Lucy Chartrand.

Just a reminder that a euchre tournament is being held in Sheenboro Municipal Hall on Tuesday evenings. Sign-up starts at 6:45 p.m. and games at 7 p.m. sharp. The cost is $5 per player, 50 percent of proceeds go to the winner. The other 50 per cent is being raised for charity, either third world or local, yet to be determined.

Please note that on Dec. 24 and 31 there will be no cards. On Jan. 7, the euchre tournament resumes. A few ladies from Sheenboro thought this may be a nice outing through the winter. Everyone welcome.
