Hello to all! I am home from a wonderful week in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. My friend Lindsay Hamilton and I travelled there for the week with a big group of family and friends to the Majestic Elegance resort, to celebrate with my cousin Jim Young and his beautiful bride Kim Young. We had a fabulous time, as the weather was perfect and the resort was absolutely gorgeous. On Feb. 10, we all gathered at the beach as Jim and Kim exchanged vows and became husband and wife. It was the most perfect day celebrating such a wonderful couple. Thank you to Kim and Jim for organizing the whole trip and making it a totally amazing week for all of us. Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Young.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Gwen Peppard. Gwen passed away on Feb. 4 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was such a sweet woman, loved dearly by all who knew her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Denis Renaud, and the Renaud and Peppard families at this sad time.
I missed out on the Quyon Legion’s Valentine’s Day dinner as I was away on my trip, but I hear it was a fantastic meal. Kudos to the Legion members and volunteers who made this delicious dinner happen. It was greatly appreciated by the community.
On Saturday, Feb 15, the Quyon Sports & Recreation Association hosted a Winter Carnival at the outdoor rink in Quyon, and it was a huge success. There were all kinds of winter games and activities to enjoy, both on and off the ice, as well as food, music, a craft for the kids put on by the Quyon Library, and so much more. It was the perfect way to enjoy this wintery weather. A big shout out the QSR and all who pitched it to organize this event.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to Barb Atwell, as she celebrated on Feb. 12, to Kira Stanley and Cecile Dumont on the 13th, to Brian Young on the 14th, and to Megan Alexander on the 18th. Happy Birthday to the Hobbs twins, Raelynn and Finnley, as they turn 7 on the 20th. Birthday wishes are also going out to Sarah McKenny, Ian Dagenais, and Parker Alexander on the 21st, to Tanner Belland on the 22nd, and to Isaac Cote and his little cousin Bennett McCann, both on the 23rd. Happy Birthday to Sara McCann-Richardson on the 24th, and to Dryden Frobel and my aunt Linda Lucas on the 25th. Blessings to all celebrating special occasions this week.
Please note that the Fishing Derby scheduled for this coming Saturday, Feb. 22, has been cancelled. Due to the huge amount of snow recently and ice shacks frozen in place, they are unable to clear the ice in order to hold the tournament.
The Quyon Lions Club have some upcoming events to mark on your calendars. Their annual Curling Bonspiel will be held on Mar. 1 at the Shawville Curling Club. To register your team, you can contact Glen Leach at 613-913-8274. The Lions will also be hosting their annual Pancake Supper on Mar. 4 at the Quyon Legion. These are two of my favourite events, and I am looking forward to both.
