Happy New Year to all. I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas season, and that you all had a great holiday with family and friends. Mine was a wonderful mixture of fun times spent with my loved ones, and also peaceful moments of relaxation. It was a really nice Christmas break.
Our New Year’s Eve was spent celebrating my sister’s birthday at my mom’s house, and we had a terrific time. Wishing you all continued health and happiness in 2025.
One of my favourite events of the holiday season was Gail Gavan’s show “Christmas in the Pontiac”, which my mom and I saw at Gavan’s Hotel on Dec. 22. Gail and her friends on-stage put on a fantastic show, singing many Christmas favourites, as well as other well-loved Valley tunes. It was a fun evening of Christmas magic, and it really put us in the spirit. A big thank you to Gail and her band for bringing this amazing evening of entertainment to Quyon, we hope to see them back again next year.
Deepest sympathy is going out to the family and friends of Lyle Fraser, as he passed away on Dec. 27. Lyle was a retired Platoon Chief for the Ottawa Fire Services, and he was well respected by his peers in the firefighter community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Darlene, Meghan, and all of Lyle’s loved ones. May you find comfort in your cherished memories.
On New Year’s Eve, Gavan’s Hotel hosted the biggest bash in town, with the band Chicken Fried entertaining the crowd. I hear it was a great night ringing in 2025.
On Sat., Jan. 4, the Quyon Legion hosted a Washer Tournament, with a great gang out to play. It is important to have events like this in town during the winter, to help pass the long, cold days. Kudos to the legion for organizing fun times like this.
I had a special request to send birthday wishes to Idena Parent and Roberta Sparling, as they celebrated on Jan. 1. Happy birthday also to Logan Lapierre and Keith Fraser, both on the 13th. Best wishes to all celebrating special occasions this week.
Congratulations to my nephew, Caden Provost, and his M21A Aylmer Mariners team for winning the Terrebonne 2025 Tournament this past weekend. Way to go buddy.
We’ve had some nice cold weather after a bit of a mild Christmas, which has certainly helped with ice making.
The Beechgrove Rink is open for all to enjoy now, and a big thanks goes out to the volunteers who have been working hard to get it ready.
Jan. 1, 2025 marked the 150th anniversary of Quyon’s incorporation as a town, and the Quyon Community Association will be celebrating all year long with upcoming events and celebrations each month. To kick off Quyon’s 150th celebrations, the QCA will be hosting a Trivia Night at Gavan’s Hotel on Jan. 17, which will have a Sesquicentennial theme. Be sure to register your team by contacting: quyonca@yahoo.com. My team is registered and we can’t wait.
