Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Kathleen Church, as she passed away on Dec. 8. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones at this sad time.
Condolences are going out to the family of Donnie Lance, as he passed away on Dec. 10. Sending comfort and prayers to all of his loved ones as they grieve this loss.
This past Saturday, my mom and I enjoyed a delicious take-out tea from the Starks Corners UCW. We really enjoyed it, thank you so much to the ladies who prepared it.
Also on Saturday, we stopped in at Stedmans in Shawville for “one last visit” before they closed the doors. It was nice to get to chat with Carolyn and Rhonda, reminiscing and sharing some wonderful memories of the store over the years. We wish the Meisners all the best in their retirement. We sure will miss Stedmans.
Meanwhile, over at the Shawville Arena, the Shawville Figure Skating Club was putting on their Christmas show, “An Enchanted Christmas”. I hear it was a wonderful showcase of local figure skating talent, including many skaters from the Quyon area. Well done to all of you.
On Sunday morning, the Sunday School children of the Quyon Pastoral Charge performed their Christmas Pageant at Wesley United Church, much to the delight of the congregation. It was a wonderful morning of hearing the Christmas story told through the eyes of the children, and singing some of our very favourite carols. A big thank to the performers: Emma, Hayden, Raelynn and Finnley Hobbs, Molly Dowe, Samuel and Elaine Woermke, Neve and Noah Young, and Emilia Pope. Kudos also to Lindsay Hamilton for organizing and directing the pageant.
As this will be my last column until the New Year, I have a big list of upcoming birthdays to shout-out. First and foremost, though, is a special birthday being celebrated today, Dec. 18. Happy 80th birthday to Bob Steele of Calgary – a Quyon boy from the 1950’s, who believes “you can take the boy out of Quyon, but you can’t take the Quyon out of the boy.” Wishing you all the best on your special day, Bob.
We also have birthday wishes going out to Yasmine Lapierre on the 22nd, and to Adalyne Young as she celebrates on Christmas Day. Happy Birthday to Leach Cote on the 28th, to Glenda Nitschke on the 29th, and to my sister Kara Young, celebrating on New Year’s Eve. Coming into the New Year, we have birthday wishes going out to Eric Provost and Priscilla Kluke-Brownlee on Jan. 2, to Sherri-Lynn Foran on the 3rd, and to Grace Cote and Stephanie Provost, both on the 4th. Happy Birthday to Kelsey Stanley on the 5th, to Kyle Stanley on the 6th, and to Evan Prest on the 7th. Wishing all of you celebrating special occasions over the next few weeks all the best.
At this time, I’d like to wish all of THE EQUITY readers a very Merry Christmas. Thank you to all of you who have shared bits of news, birthday wishes, and so much more with me over the past year. I look forward to continuing writing this social notes column in the New Year. Enjoy a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones, and I will see you all in 2025.
