It was a spooky weekend in Quyon, as Halloween celebrations were taking place all weekend long. On Friday evening, the Onslow Home and School Committee hosted their first event of the school year, as they invited students out for their Halloween Dance and Haunted House at the school. It was great fun for the kids and parents alike.
Meanwhile, Gavan’s Hotel and the Quyon Community Association teamed up to hold a pumpkin carving contest for children in the community. Entries were dropped off at Gavan’s last week, and the judging was held Friday evening. While the top three pumpkins were selected, it was very difficult for the judges to decide, so all who entered in the contest received a prize. This was some great Halloween fun for families in our village. Kudos to Gavan’s and the QCA for hosting this contest.
Saturday evening, Gavan’s was the place to be, as they held their annual Halloween Costume Party. DJ Dave was playing music for the night, and there were many folks who showed up in terrific costumes. It was a great night of spooky fun for all who attended.
Birthday wishes are going out to Melanie McCann-Lang and Doug Kennedy, both celebrating on Nov. 1. We also have birthday wishes going out to Dianne McCann and Shawn Schwartz on the 2nd, and to Laura Stewart, Chris MacKechnie, and my uncle Elson Schock on the 3rd. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
On Saturday, the arena in Shawville was buzzing with activity as they had a full slate of home opener games throughout the day. They also held a barbeque and vendor sale, while also featuring the Ottawa Senators Street Team on site for the kids to enjoy. We went up to watch my nephew Noah’s U11 game at noon, and it was great to see so much activity going on around the rink. Wishing all of our local hockey players a great season.
We held our annual Harvest Draw for the Quyon Pastoral Charge on Sunday after church at Wesley United. The prizes this year included a beautiful handmade blanket, made and donated by Mary-Ellen Young, a charcuterie board package donated by the Young and Provost families, and a basket of harvest goodies donated by members of the congregation. The winner of the blanket was Chris Provost, while Kathleen Sullivan won the charcuterie board package, and Kendall Young won the basket. A big thank you to the greater community for supporting our fall fundraiser, as it was a huge success.
Wishing everyone a fun and safe Halloween on Thursday night. Enjoy the treats!
