Heartfelt condolences are extended to the family of Louis Major, as he passed away on Mar. 7. The community is thinking of his loved ones at this sad time.

I was sorry to hear of the passing of Art MacIntyre on Mar. 19. I have great memories of Art, from when I used to score keep for the 3-pitch league in Luskville. He always greeted me warmly and loved to chat. Thoughts and prayers are with his sons Corey and Chris and their families, and all of Art’s friends.

On Friday evening, the Shawville Figure Skating Club held their year-end show, with the theme this year being “Skating Through the Silver Screen”. It was a fantastic night of performances on the ice, showcasing talent of all ages. Well done to all of the young figure skaters on another fantastic season.

A surprise 75th birthday party was held in honour of Diane McColgan on Saturday evening at Gavan’s Hotel. Many of Diane’s family and friends gathered to celebrate this milestone birthday with her. Wishing you many happy returns, Diane.

On Saturday evening, a Stage & Doe was held in honour of Joshua Greenshields and Destiny Murphy at the Quyon Community Centre. There was a great crowd out to celebrate with the happy couple as their big day approaches. Best wishes to Josh and Destiny.

Birthday wishes are going out to Ruby Fraser, Kirk Richardson, and Terry Hamilton, all celebrating on Mar. 27.

Happy birthday to Oliver Schwartz on the 28th, to Sally Cavan on the 29th, and to Don Stanley on the 30th.

We also have birthday wishes to Glen Leach and his grandson Cameron Bernier, both celebrating on Apr. 1.

Blessings to all marking special occasions this week.

The snow has mostly melted, the robins are back, and now we have another big sign of spring: The Quyon Ferry is set to open soon. Upon writing these notes, they were projecting opening day to be Mar. 26. This is great news for so many in our area, and we look forward to seeing the Ferry back on the Ottawa River again for another season.
