Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Mary Alexander Teevens, as she passed away on Mar. 12 at the age of 98. What a long and wonderful life, well lived. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Alexander and Teevens families as the mourn the loss of their matriarch.

Our condolences are also with the family of Doug Young, as he recently passed away very suddenly. Thinking of Doug’s siblings, Linda Bernier and Bob Young, and all of his loved ones at this sad time.

What a weekend that was in Quyon, filled with St. Pat’s celebrations all around. We kicked off the fun on Saturday with the annual Irish Tea hosted by the Quyon Pastoral Charge. This year, we decided to have the Tea at the Quyon Community Centre, which proved to be a big hit. The hall was quickly filled with folks dressed up in green that came out to enjoy the delicious sandwiches, squares, and tea. It was a fantastic success. Many thanks to all who attended and supported our fundraiser.

That afternoon, the Quyon Legion was the place to be for the much loved St. Paddy’s Day Kitchen Party. All were invited to show up with their instruments and join in the fun. There was a great turnout, with fabulous local music all afternoon and evening long. Hats off to the Legion for hosting another terrific event.

On Saturday night, Gavan’s Hotel played host to some fantastic Celtic music. The opening act was Jessica Pearson & the East Wind, which is a band from Ottawa that I have been a big fan of for the past few years, and it was unbelievable to get to see them live in my own hometown. Then Jimmy George took the stage with their rowdy Irish music, and quickly had the dance floor hopping. It was awesome to see Gavan’s packed for such a big night of incredible music. What an extraordinary show, and there is more to come as Gavan’s will be featuring Wide Mouth Mason on Mar. 30, and Ambush and Gail Gavan on Apr. 5. Be sure to get your tickets, as they will sell out.

Belated birthday wishes are going out to Ruby Hammond, as she celebrated her 85th birthday on Mar. 16. We also have birthday wishes going out to Michael McCann and Tayler Campbell on the 19th, and to Annie Schwartz on the 21st. Happy birthday to Brittany Ramsay and Audrey Carkner, both celebrating on March 22nd, to Clark Hamilton, Jared Hamilton, and Tianna Young, all on the 23rd, and to Courtney Stanley on the 24th. Happy days to all marking special occasions this week.

Congratulations to the Outaouais Dragons U18 AA team, as they won the LLHL inner AA division Championship on Sunday. Local team players were Pierce Rusenstrom, Valerie Bisson, Liam Queale, and assistant coach Matthew Queale. Way to go Dragons!
