Congratulations to Morgan (Scully) and Brandon Fenton on the arrival of their baby boy, Jack on March 19. He is a baby brother for Aurora and Lewis. Best wishes to the whole family as they welcome their sweet little boy.

Best wishes are also going out to first time parents Kathleen (Hickey) and Mark Carkner on the safe arrival of their little girl, Audrey Ann on March 22. She is a new granddaughter for Mike and Bernice Hickey and a great-grandchild for Anita Draper. Congratulations to all.

Last Wednesday, the monthly Retired Ladies Brunch was held at Clarendon Street Café, with some special Irish music to keep the St. Paddy’s Day celebrations going. The Quyon Ladies played and sang. Gail Gavan also joined in much to the delight of the ladies who had gathered. It sounds like it was a fantastic morning. Thank you to Cecile Dumont for organizing the event.

Friday evening, the Shawville Figure Skating Club held their year end show, “Happiness on Ice.” There were many beautiful performances from our local skaters, including several wonderful Quyon figure skaters. I was unable to attend the show but I saw some videos on Facebook and they were all so impressive. Congratulations to all involved.

On Saturday morning, we headed to Aylmer, Que. to watch my nephew Noah playing his last game of the season for the Shawville Lions Novice 3 team. It was amazing to see all they have learned over the past season, and how much improved they all were. They followed their game with a pizza party at the Aylmer Bowling Alley where awards were handed out and all of the kids received gifts. I know many of the local players are wrapping up their seasons right now and we hope they all had a great year. Kudos to the coaches and managers who volunteer their time to help the kids grow and develop, both on and off the ice.

On Saturday night, my nephew Caden played his final minor hockey game, as their playoffs came to a close with a disappointing loss. It tugged at my heart strings the next morning at church, when he put his money in the celebration jar for his last game and thanked all of his family and friends for their support over the years. Time sure does fly.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Donna Woods, as she passed away on March 21 after a battle with cancer. Her Quyon friends will miss her dearly. Thoughts and prayers are with all of her loved ones at this sad time.

Birthday wishes are going out to Don Stanley on March 30 and to Glen Leach and his grandson Cameron Bernier who are both celebrating on April 1. Happy birthday to Jenna Rainey-Fleck on April 2, to Sam Woermke and Graham Dowe on April 3 and to my nephew Noah Young and Jack Clarke, both on April 4. Happy days to everyone celebrating special occasions this week.
