Despite the nasty weather this past Saturday, it was a real treat to see the RCMP Musical Ride which was hosted by the Pontiac Agricultural Society at the fairgrounds in Shawville. Thankfully the rain took a break just as the show began. It was truly impressive to see the horses prance in unison to the music. It was also nice that there was a little connection to my former Relay for Life team, the Slipper Sisters, as it was my former teammates Laura Stewart and Jaime Christie-Stewart who originally got the ball rolling and applied for the ride to come to Shawville.

Kudos to all involved in organizing the event. It was an honour to have them come to our area.

Onslow School will be hosting their annual community barbecue, book fair and talent show this coming Thursday evening. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. at the school. Be sure to stop in and show your support.

As promised, the Quyon Legion has re-scheduled their 80’s-themed Ladies Night. It will be held this coming May 31 and everyone is encouraged to dress the part. The evening will be filled with prizes and fun and all are welcome.

It’s hard to believe that we are almost into June. The Canada Day Committee is gearing up for the annual celebration which will be held on June 30. This year the festivities will take place at Onslow School while the fireworks will hopefully, still be able to be set off down at the Ottawa River. The committee will be hosting a spaghetti supper on June 5 at Onslow so we all have one more chance to help contribute before the big day. Don’t miss it.

Belated birthday wishes are going out to Bill Gilmour who celebrated on May 25 and his wife Linda is celebrating on June 2. Happy birthday also to Peggy Fraser and Jen Bell both on June 3 and to Rebecca Nugent on June 4. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.

Special thanks to the folks in town who have been working to clean up the park area on Egan Street just off Clarendon. Many people have contributed plants to help spruce up the flower beds that have been neglected for years and others have been working to keep the grass cut and getting the benches fixed. To all involved, a big thank you from our community.
