It was another crazy week of flooding in our area. Last Monday, the lower streets of town were evacuated and the Quyon Ferry closed as the dike on Ferry Road became unstable.
For much of the week the military was in town, along with a heightened police presence as they worked to re-enforce the dike and continued to monitor it. I have never seen anything like it.
The waters finally started to recede late in the week and by Saturday residents in the lower part of the village were able to return to their homes. Then on Sunday morning, the ferry re-opened.
A big thank you goes out to all involved in keeping our town safe last week as they worked around the clock to secure the dikes both at Ferry Road and near the seniors home. Let’s hope that we don’t have to re-live this again anytime soon. The sunny, warm weekend was a much needed reprieve.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Sandra Storing Stanley as she passed away on May 3 after a courageous battle with cancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones at this sad time.
A little birdie tells me that Betty Hickey retired last Friday. Congratulations Betty. Her husband, Joseph, has also retired, so we wish them both all the best in this new chapter. Relax and enjoy.
Happy birthday to Debbie Hudson, as she celebrates on May 10, to Adam Bernier on May 11 and to Rori Richardson celebrating on May 14. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
After the stressful weeks we’ve had around here recently it will be great to unwind and have some fun on Friday night at the Quyon Legion. They are hosting a “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” 80s themed ladies night. It sounds like a blast. Hope there is a great turnout.
Wishing all the moms out there a fabulous weekend and that they enjoy being spoiled by their families. Happy Mother’s Day.
