Our community has been ravaged by flood waters over the past week. The damage thus far has been devastating with waters still rising as I write this. However it is during times of crisis that small towns step up the most. It has been heartening to see folks coming together to bag sand, helping their friends, families and neighbours.
On Saturday, I helped my mom, Glenna Campbell and Charlene Aubertin to serve food at the Women’s Institute/Bert Kennedy Centre in Quyon while many volunteers were out sandbagging the new community centre. It was a miserable day weatherwise and I was so proud of everyone who was pitching in in some way. There were also many others waiting in the wings to help if called upon.
To our municipal employees and to all the volunteers in our town and throughout our region who have been working tirelessly to save homes, cottages and buildings thank you for all you have done and continue to do.
These are tough times, but together we will get through this.
Our thoughts are with the Hobbs family as they lost their matriarch, Alma Westbrook, on April 22. Alma had just turned 100 earlier in April. Deepest sympathy is extended to all of her loved ones as they grieve this loss and celebrate a long life well lived.
Condolences are also going out to Gwen Peppard and her family as she recently lost her brother, Bob Peppard. This is an especially difficult time for Gwen and her husband Denis Renaud as they have also been evacuated from their beautiful home on the river. We are keeping them in our prayers.
This week we have birthday wishes going out to Ryan Barr on May 1, to Debbie Johnston on May 3, to Caryl McCann-Côté on May 4, to Amanda MacKechnie-Armitage on May 6, to Kelly Stanley-Hajdu on May 7 and to Annabelle Fleck as she turns four on May 7. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
