Everyone is desperately searching for signs of spring after such a long, cold winter. Thankfully there have been a few. My mom claims the robins are out on Stanton Road but even better, Casse Croute du Village opened for the season on Saturday. It was still quite cold out but it was so nice to see Robert and his staff again and my first taste of chip stand food was delicious. Welcome back.

Another sure sign of spring is that the local minor hockey season is winding down. It isn’t over yet for one local team though. Congratulations to the Midget A Lions who had a big win on Sunday to become the regional champions. They are off to the provincials in early April and we are all cheering them on.

I’d also like to give a shout-out to my nephew, Caden Provost, as his Bantam A team from Aylmer finished their year as regional finalists on Saturday. They had a great season.

There is still a big weekend of hockey coming up in Shawville with the Flying Elbows tournament this coming weekend. This year they are marking the 20th anniversary of the tournament with a game between the Shawville Flying Elbows and the Ottawa Senators Alumni team on Saturday night. Good luck to all involved.

The Quyon Family Centre is hoping to hold a CPR course in the near future. Having CPR certification is an asset so if anyone is interested, please contact the Family Centre for more information.

Birthday wishes are going out to Kirk Richardson and Terry Hamilton who are both celebrating on March 27. Happy 10th birthday to Oliver Schwartz on March 28, from his mom and dad, Annie and Fletcher.

Happy 80th birthday to Don Stanley as he celebrates this milestone birthday on March 30, with love from his family. We also have wishes going out to Glen Leach and his grandson Cameron Bernier as they share their day on April 1. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.

Congratulations to Annie Schwartz as she received her brown belt in karate at the Douvris Martial Arts Centre in Aylmer, Que. this past weekend. She, along with her brothers Ollie and Fletcher and her mom Meagan, also participated in the Kids Kicking Cancer event on Saturday. They each completed 1,000 kicks and raised $380 for the cause. Way to go, Team Schwartz.

The Quyon Pastoral Charge has a busy week ahead as they are hosting this month’s soup and sandwich lunch today at the Quyon church basement. Then on Saturday, the UCW will be holding their first Spring Craft and Vendor Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ten local artisans and vendors will be at the church with a wide variety of goods and products. Celebrate the arrival of spring with a little shopping. We hope to see you there.
