With the Christmas holidays now upon us it’s time to start thinking of New Year’s resolutions. One of mine is always to lose some weight and be more active. It looks like I’ll have several local options to help me in that endeavour in the new year, The Pontiac Community Gym is set to open in 2019. They held several open houses last week to let the public have a sneak peek at what they can expect and enjoy in the new gym when it opens. Since it is right across the road from me I will definitely be checking it out.
I also attended a Pound Rockout workout at the Women’s Institute building last week. Meghan Foran has been hosting demo classes as she prepares to start teaching the workout in both Quyon and Luskville in the new year. The class is a blast, and I’m already excited to continue in 2019.
On Friday evening, my mom and I attended a Sip & Shop at Kim Boucher’s featuring her winter line of clothing and accessories for Boutique Bronson. Kim and Gail have been attending vendor sales throughout the Valley the past few months. They have beautiful ponchos, capes, scarves and jewelry. I picked up a few pieces that I’m in love with and we had a fun evening visiting with the ladies.
We were treated to the annual Christmas Pageant at Wesley United Church on Sunday morning and the children did a fabulous job of relaying the Christmas story to the congregation. The big kids were excellent at telling the story while the little ones made fabulous shepherds, angels, wise men and of course, Mary and Joseph with the Baby Jesus. Congratulations to all involved in putting on the pageant. It was just wonderful. The Quyon Pastoral Charge’s Christmas Eve service will be held at Wesley United Church in Beechgrove at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and all are welcome. The church will be closed on Dec. 30 and Jan. 6. Services will resume on Jan. 13 in Quyon.
The Quyon Legion held their Christmas Bingo on Sunday afternoon with a great crowd out to have fun and try their luck. The winners took home turkeys and hams. Next up for the Legion is their big New Year’s Eve party, with the band Timewarp set to perform. Be sure to get your tickets, it will be the place to be to ring in the New Year.
Birthday wishes over the next few weeks are going out to Leah Côté on Dec. 28 and to Glenda Nitschke on Dec. 29. Our family is also sending out big birthday wishes to my sister, Kara, as she celebrates on New Year’s eve. Best wishes to everyone marking a special occasion during this holiday season.
On Dec. 21, there will be a community Christmas caroling evening from 7 – 9 p.m. in Quyon. Kudos to Mitchel Trudeau for organizing this event. I’m looking forward to gathering with friends to sing our way through town. Starting location is still to be determined. If you’re interested in joining, watch for details on Facebook.
The Quyon Ferry is still operating and will continue to do so until 8 p.m. on Dec. 21. The Ferry will be closed for the season after that time and date.
As this will be my last column before Christmas I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support and kind words throughout the year. Thank you to all who submit news or wishes and I look forward to continuing to share the Quyon news in 2019.
Have a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2019.
