Our community has been devastated by another tragedy. Thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Chris Young who passed away on Dec. 4. Chris was a local businessman, a member of the Lions Club and the kind of guy who was always there when you needed him. Sending all of our love to his sons, Brian and Curtis and all of Chris’ extended family.
It was also with heavy hearts that we learned the news of the sudden passing of Sylvio Richard. As a teacher at PHS and also a local businessman, he has touched the lives of many in our community. He was also a big part of building the new Quyon Ferry. Our deepest sympathies to all of his loved ones.
On Dec. 3, the Quyon Pastoral Charge hosted the annual Christmas House Tour. As one of the organizers of this event I can’t tell you how grateful I am to the folks who agreed to be on the tour and opened their doors to us that night: Angie and Jeff Ireland, Francine and Lorne Dagenais, Caryl and André Coté, Linda and Bill Gilmour and Mae McCann and her family. Each home was so beautiful and festive. Everyone did an amazing job of decorating. Refreshments were served at the church throughout the evening and tickets were sold on several different draws.
The winner of the big Christmas goodie basket was Indianna Monast. We had a tree skirt made of ties made and donated by Shirley-Mae Davis as well as a gift certificate to Boutique Shawville Shooz donated by Jill McBane and that draw was won by Maryon Courrier. The third draw was for dozens of homemade Christmas cookies, made by members of the congregation and that prize went to Pat Lusk. Door prizes were won by Margaret Ann Coté, Sheila Watt, Priscilla Derouin, Donna Hawkins, and Carol Kavanagh. Congratulations to all of the winners.
Stephen and Jenna Rusenstrom also donated a basket full of beautiful ornaments hand-crafted by Stephen which were sold that evening and all proceeds went to the church. The support for this fundraiser is greatly appreciated, we hope everyone enjoyed the evening.
Santa Claus came to town on Saturday and it was a wonderful day for a parade. It was so nice to see so many local businesses and groups represented and the floats, entries and horses were all wonderful. I was so happy that my giant Elf on the Shelf, Lynndonne and his buddy Tucker were asked to join the Quyon Tractor and Truck Pullers’ float again this year. A special shout out to Santa himself who had big shoes to fill. The kids were all so excited to see him.
There were prizes for parade entries: First place went to L and J Towing, second place was won by Casse Croute du Village and third place went to the Quyon Library. Kudos to the Lions and Lionettes for organizing this event, as it is always a special day in our town.
Happy birthday to Amelia Dowe who will be turning one on Dec. 14. I’d also like to send big birthday wishes to my niece, Danica Provost, as she hits double-digits on the 15. Best wishes to Jenna Laframboise who also celebrates on Dec. 15 and to Brett Stanley on Dec. 17.
The Quyon Ferry is still open. They are now projecting Dec. 16 minimum. Check the ferry website. If it says they are open, they are still open.
There are still several festive events to come in our community. The Quyon Legion is hosting their annual Christmas Bingo on Dec. 16 with turkeys and hams as the prizes. Also there will be a community Christmas Caroling evening coming up on Dec. 21 which I’m really looking forward to. The holiday season is my favourite time of year.
