A family in our community suffered a tragedy over the weekend. Our thoughts are with Lyne Duval and her children as they lost their house to a fire and they also lost their husband and father, Sandy Smart in that fire. Prayers are with all of Sandy’s family and friends at this devastating time. Kudos to all who have been donating clothing and toys to help them in their time of need.
Our thoughts are also with Laurie and Mona MacKechnie and their family as their foster son, Courtney Alexander, passed away on Nov. 24. Courtney will be missed by all who knew him.

We were also saddened to hear of the passing of John Derraugh. John and his wife Barb used to live in Quyon and were members of the United Church. His friends in the Pontiac will be keeping his family in their thoughts at this sad time.
We attended a lovely baby shower at the home of Shawn and Meagan Schwartz on Sunday afternoon, in honour of Virginia Schwartz. Virginia and her husband, Jeff Freeborn, are expecting their first child in December. Many family and friends gathered to shower them with gifts to help them get ready for their little one. We wish Ginny and Jeff all the best as they prepare for their baby’s arrival.
The festive season is upon us and the calendar is already filling up with plenty of Christmas fun in the coming weeks. I actually hosted a Christmas party for a group of friends on Saturday evening. We enjoyed delicious snacks and had a gift exchange of Christmas decorations and ornaments. It was a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season. Thank you to the ladies for coming.
On Dec. 2 the Quyon Legion is hosting a turkey dinner fundraiser at the Legion from 4:30-7 pm. Advance tickets are available at the Legion and also at the door that night. I’m sure it will be a delicious meal. I am looking forward to it.
The Quyon Pastoral Charge is hosting the annual Christmas House Tour on Dec. 3. This year the tour features the homes of Angie and Jeff Ireland, Francine Lemay and Lorne Dagenais, Caryl and André Côté, Linda McCann and Bill Gilmour, and Mae McCann and family. I am so excited to see what each of them have in store for us. It’s always a fabulous evening.
A reminder to mark your calendars for Dec. 8, as the big man in red will be hitting Quyon that day at noon for the Santa Claus Parade. Santa will also be greeting the children at Onslow School after the parade, and hot dogs, hot chocolates and treats will be served.
Happy birthday to Bonnie Fraser-Dowe on Nov. 28, and to her hubby Chris Dowe on Nov. 29. Big wishes are also going out to Thomas Hamilton as he celebrates his first birthday on Dec. 2. Blessings to everyone celebrating this week.
The Quyon Ferry is still open and they will be open until at least Dec. 2. After that be sure to check their website. If it says they are still open, they are open.
