Congratulations to Meghan Alexander and Joshua Watson on the birth of their daughter on Oct. 16. They named her Luna Jennifer Violet and she is a little sister for Cash. She is also the first grand-daughter for Jen (Desjardins) and Chris Alexander. Best wishes to the whole family on the arrival of their sweet little girl.
The Quyon Lionettes hosted the annual car rally on Saturday and it was a terrific event as always. Anne, Leslie, Monique, Penny and Virginia Lavigne mapped the route and provided the theme and questions for the day. It was a clever and challenging rally this year. Kudos to them for all of the hard work they put into making it a fun day.
Our team was quite pleased with our fifth place finish. The big winners this year were Ashley Carson Taylor, Chelsea Carson MacGregor, Amanda Pagé Carson, Kelly O’Connell, Shellbie Greer and Gabrielle Breton Rocan. There were also prizes handed out for best decorated car, best dressed team, many door prizes and the 50/50 was won by Kelly O’Connell. A delicious meal was served by the Lions and Lionettes at Gavan’s Hotel following the rally. A big thanks to the Lionettes for organizing this event for our community, and to all of the local businesses that donated prizes. It was a great day.

A special worship service was held on Sunday at Wesley United Church in Beechgrove. Rev. Dr. Rob Oliphant was visiting as the guest minister and he was warmly welcomed by the congregation. Rob was the minister for the Quyon Pastoral Charge over 30 years ago. He is now an elected MP in the House of Commons representing the riding of Don Valley West. He was also present to baptize Raelynn and Finnley Hobbs, the children of Wayne and Sharon Hobbs, with the assistance of student minister Éric Hébert-Daly. It was wonderful to hear Rob share his fond memories of his time in Quyon and how he still feels like he’s “coming home” when he visits. He is truly a remarkable speaker. It was a wonderful service of celebration as we welcomed Raelynn and Finnley into our church family. A delicious potluck lunch followed in the church basement where everyone had the opportunity to visit and reminisce with Rob.
Our condolences to John Ramsay and Louise Ramsay, as well as their daughter Kathleen and her family, on the loss of little Audrey who passed away on Oct. 12. Audrey had courageously battled mitochondrial disease all of her young life. Deepest sympathies to her family.
Thoughts and prayers are also with the family of Ellard Perry who passed away on Oct. 17. He was a pillar of the community and he will be greatly missed.
We have birthday wishes going out to Rilen Richardson on Oct. 26 and to Paisley Thomson on Oct. 28. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.
The end of October is creeping up on us and I’m sure there is lots of Halloween fun coming up this weekend in the Pontiac. Don’t forget the annual costume party at Gavan’s Hotel on Saturday night. It is always a great time and there is prize money to be won. Hoping everyone has a spooktacular time.
