Summer sure did go out with a bang this past weekend, as many in our area were hit with tornadoes, microbursts, wild winds and storms on Friday evening. It was unbelievable to see the footage of the damage done in the Ottawa-Gatineau area and throughout the valley. We were very lucky to have not been in the path of the tornado and we didn’t lose power for any length of time. Others in our area were not so fortunate and our thoughts and prayers are with those who are dealing with the aftermath of the storms.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Lorne McRae who passed away on Sept. 16.
It was a weekend of celebrating for Blake Howarth and Meghan Foran, as their big day is quickly approaching. On Friday, a bridal shower was held in Meghan’s honour and then on Saturday, a stag and doe was held at Gavan’s Hotel for the happy couple. There was a great crowd of family and friends out. The wedding party had set up wonderful decorations, games and lots of fun for all. Congratulations to Meghan and Blake.
Sunday was a special day for the Thomson and Stanley families as baby Presley was baptized. She is the daughter of Dave Thomson and Kelsey Stanley and little sister to Paisley. Best wishes to the family on this happy occasion.
On Sunday, we attended a Meet and Greet at Donna Kennedy’s to meet my newest little cousin, Raymie. We were all so happy to see him and to wish his mommy Kayla Duquette well. We enjoyed a delicious luncheon and I sure enjoyed my snuggles with Raymie. Thank you to Great- Aunt Donna for having us.
The Quyon Flyers continued their playoffs last week, as they lost Tuesday night in Quyon to the Kars Aces by a score of 8-1. They played again in Quyon on Thursday night, beating West Carleton Electric in a nail-biter 2-1. They advance to the finals against Kars Aces, and according to the GOFL website, that game will go Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. in Manotick, Ont. Good luck to the Flyers. I’d like to send belated birthday wishes to Charlotte Dowe who celebrated her eighth birthday on Sept. 21. Big birthday wishes are going out to Harold McKenny celebrating his 40th birthday today. Happy Birthday to Rolly Bernier, also today, to Brandon MacKechnie who is turning 30 on Sept. 28 and to Patti Davis, Jill McBane,and Curtis Hudson all on Sept. 30. Birthday wishes are going out to Fletcher Schwartz on Oct.1 and to Shelly Campbell on Oct. 2. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.
