I hope everyone enjoyed a great Victoria Day weekend. Aside from a little rain on Saturday, it was a beautiful one.
We kicked off the long weekend by attending a bridal shower in honour of Meghan Morris at the Quyon Legion on Friday evening. There were lots of laughs as we played games and enjoyed a delicious snack. Wishing Meghan and her groom-to-be Brandon MacKechnie all the best as their big day is quickly approaching.
I was up bright and early Saturday morning to watch the Royal Wedding and it was so worth the extra early alarm. I loved every moment of watching Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle in a true fairytale wedding. Everything was just beautiful.
While I was watching the wedding, I heard the wonderful news that friends Josée Simard and Evan Prest had welcomed their baby girl the night before. Gracynn Olivia was born shortly before midnight on May 18 and she is a beautiful little sister for Landyn. Congratulations to the whole family. I can’t wait to meet her.
I was very sorry to read in last week’s issue of THE EQUITY that Leona Cain passed away on May 12. Growing up on Stanton Road in Quyon, Leona and her husband Lloyd were our next door neighbours and they were always so kind and friendly. Thoughts are with Leona’s family at this sad time.
We are thinking of the family of Randy McPhie as he passed on May 14 in Renfrew. Our condolences as you grieve this loss.
Deepest sympathy is also extended to the family of Eleanor McBane as she passed away on May 18. Another former Stanton Road neighbour and friend to many in Quyon. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Get well wishes are going out to Lorne McRae from his family as he has been in hospital recently. Hoping Lorne is feeling better soon.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to John McRae who celebrated on May 19 with love from his family. Happy birthday also to Sheena Hudson celebrating on May 23 and to Meghan Foran on May 25.
Last Thursday evening, I attended the Spring Fashion Show at the Little Red Wagon Winery along with my mom and sister and we were joined by my aunt Marion Draper and Marion McDonald. The Fashion Show marked the 11th anniversary of Boutique Gwendoline in Shawville and featured many beautiful fashions. Shoes and purses were also provided by Boutique Shawville Shooz. It was such a fun evening as the lovely models showed off gorgeous styles for spring, leisure wear, cruisewear and cocktail. They also handed out many wonderful door prizes (and I was the lucky winner of one of them.) Thanks to Katharine Summerfield, Jill McBane and all who helped out to pull off this wonderful show. We had a terrific evening.
Congratulations to Brodee Campbell for receiving the “Mérite Scolaire” for École Ste-Marie last week. He attended a gala last Thursday evening with the school board and was the proud student selected to receive the award for his school. Well done Brodee.
I hear that Ed Scott, longtime employee of the Quyon Ferry, has officially retired. Congratulations to Ed on many years of hard work and dedication. He will certainly be missed on the boat. Ed will be toasted at a retirement party at the Quyon Legion on the evening of May 31. All are welcome.
