Congratulations to Kayla (MacKechnie) and Ben Duquette on the safe arrival of their first child. Their baby boy, Raymie Mack, was born on Sept. 9. Excited grandparents are Lynn Leach, Dale MacKechnie and Dana Morin. Raymie is also a great-grandchild for Mona and Laurie MacKechnie. Best wishes to Kayla and Ben as they settle in with their new little bundle of blue.
Warm wishes are also going out to Kathleen Hickey and Mark Carkner as they recently got engaged. Kathleen is the daughter of Mike and Bernice Hickey and she is granddaugther of Anita Draper. Wishing Kathleen and Mark all the best as they begin planning for their big day.

Last Thursday, brought big excitement to Onslow School as an awesome new play structure was installed on the playground. After two years of fundraising and planning, it was wonderful to see the new play structure go up. Kudos to the Home and School Committee led by Stacy Johnston for all their hard work in making this dream a reality for the children at Onslow. There were also many other organizations and helping hands involved including the Quyon Lionettes, MNA André Fortin, Pontiac Fire Department, Western Quebec School Board, MEES, Mountainview Turf Farm, Jambette Play, Keith Fraser Cartage, Rob Fraser and all of the Onslow students, staff, parents and greater community. We hope the kids enjoy it for many years to come.
The Quyon Legion hosted a fundraiser Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament on Saturday. They had an amazing prize table to lure participants out to the tournament. First place was won by Bob Villon, with Ricky Belland finishing in second, and Ray Johnston claiming third. Congratulations to the winners and to all involved in putting on the tournament.
On Saturday, I joined a group of ladies, all former members of our Relay for Life team the Slipper Sisters as we gathered to make slippers of our own. We attended a class put on by Lianne of Shawville Moccasins, Mitts, Mukluks, and More as she taught us the craft of making our own moccasins. Lianne spent time in Manitoba and learned the methods from Cree women in her community. While it was far more challenging than I expected I was so pleased with the end result and I love my cozy moccasins. Lianne has a Facebook page if anyone is interested in contacting her, as she offers several different classes and also sells her beautiful custom pieces. Thank you to Lianne for her patience and guidance and to Laura Stewart for organizing the day for us.
I’d like to send belated birthday wishes out to my buddy Hayden Hobbs as he turned four on Sept. 9. Hope you had a great day, Hayden.
