Another Shawville Fair has come and gone and it looked to be another terrific success.
I spent the weekend enjoying delicious food, having fun in the midway for the first time in years, watching great musical acts, viewing the wonderful displays in the handicraft and vendor buildings, and taking in some of the 4-H shows. Best of all, I had a great time meeting friends and chatting with folks I might only see once a year. Congratulations to everyone who participated in any way, organizers, volunteers, and contributors as it takes many hands to pull off an event of this size. It was, as always, a fabulous weekend.

A special shout-out to my uncle, Garry Young who was honoured at the opening ceremonies of the fair last Thursday with the Dedicated Service Award. Uncle Garry has spent 20 plus years serving as the on-site plumber at the fair, often with Aunt Brenda at his side. During those years, he basically lived there all weekend long and was on hand in case any plumbing issue arose. I was so glad to be there along with many family members and friends to see him receive this honour. I know he was especially pleased to have his three granddaughters, Tiffany, Tessa and Tianna, there for the occasion. We are very proud of you Uncle Garry.
This week we have big birthday wishes going out to Melissa Joyce as she celebrates a special one on Sept. 7. Happy birthday to Adam Johnston and Glenna Campbell also on Sept. 7, to my brother Luke Young on Sept. 10 and to my cousin Donna Kennedy on Sept. 11. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
The regular season has come to an end for the Greater Ottawa Fastball League with the Quyon Flyers finishing in first place. They have earned the bye to the final four and will wait to see who they play after the first round of playoffs is over.
I had a message from Team Lavigne who are organizing the route for this year’s annual car rally hosted by the Quyon Lionettes. They are putting the final touches on it with the date being set for Oct. 20. The theme this year is In Hot Trivial Pursuit. Now that it is September, I’m sure the Lionettes will be booking times soon so stay tuned. We can’t wait.
