Congratulations to Leigh Dolan and Matt Greer on the arrival of their first child, a baby boy born on June 19. They named him Harrison Leo and I hear both mom and baby are doing well. He is the first grandchild for Dawn and Terry Dolan of Quyon. I expect he’ll grow into quite a little athlete, as he gets that from both sides. Best wishes to the whole family.
Last Friday, marked the end of the school year for many of our local students, as elementary schools wrapped up for the year and high schools held their graduation festivities. I’d like to give a special shout out to Madyson Belland as she was named valedictorian of her Grade 6 class at Onslow. Good luck to all of the students heading to high school next year. As for the high school grads, they all looked phenomenal in the photos I saw from last Friday. Wishing them nothing but the best as they embark on their future paths as well. Congratulations to all.
A Stag and Doe was held in honour of Anthony Nugent and Lindsay Mellon at the Aydelu Barn in Aylmer, Que. on Saturday evening. A great turnout of family and friends joined them to celebrate their upcoming marriage, and everyone had a wonderful time. All the best to Anthony and Lindsay as they prepare for their big day.
The Quyon Pastoral Charge held their annual Sunday School Picnic at the home of Ryan, Lindsay, Sam and Lainey Woermke on Sunday morning. The service was held in the shade of the garage and it was a special one as the most recent Confirmands, Liam Dowe, Caden Provost, Madyson Belland and Brodee Campbell shared their reflections they had written based on scripture verses they had picked out themselves. They all did a terrific job and were guided by our student minister, Éric Hébert-Daly. The Sunday School children received a gift of books for great attendance throughout the year and everyone enjoyed a delicious potluck lunch and fun in the pool. It was a fantastic way to kick off the summer. Please note that the church will be closed this coming weekend, and services will resume July 6 at Quyon United Church.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to Rory Armitage as he turned two on June 21. We also have birthday wishes going out to Avery Richardson and Eddie McCann who both celebrate on June 27, to Emily McCann on June 28, and to Ray Johnston on July 1. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.
It is great to hear that Cruise Nights in Quyon are resuming, after initially being cancelled due to the flooding situation in town. They will be held every Tuesday night behind Casse Croute du Village. It is an opportunity to check out the beautiful classic cars that will gather there.
The time has come once again to paint our town red and white. The Quyon Canada Day Committee has a great line up of fun being held this coming Sunday including the community barbecue, and activities for children commencing at Onslow School starting at 2 p.m. The parade will depart Onslow at 7 p.m.. Follow the flag at the end of the parade for the flag raising ceremony down by the Quyon Ferry. The amazing fireworks will happen at the Ottawa River at dusk and DJ Maestro Joe will be playing music at the Onslow School gymnasium throughout the evening. Happy Canada Day to all.
