Quyon beach reopens after E. coli levels drop

The Camp des Voyageurs beach near Quyon has been closed for weeks after a recent test by Quebec’s Ministry of Environment came back positive for E. Coli, preventing children attending the camp from being able to swim in it during the hot summer days.

The beach at the Camp Des Voyageurs Tim Horton camp on the Ottawa River reopened July 19, according to a press release from the province’s environment ministry.

The beach closed June 27 when a sample test of the water revealed elevated E. coli levels in Pontiac Bay, where the beach is located.

The ministry conducted tests on July 18 to re-evaluate the quality of the water and assigned it a “B” class rating, meaning the water is of good to excellent quality and is clean enough to support activities such as swimming and fishing.
