My pup likes to help me eat my meals. He wasn’t always that way. It’s my fault. I taught him and now it’s a habit that I struggle to break him of.
The other day, I sat in my rocker and closed my eyes as I ate my sandwich. I felt a soft touch. When I opened my eyes, there he was, his head quietly placed on my lap, watching me. I closed my eyes again. This time I felt his soft whiskers touching my arm. As hard as I try to ignore his presence, when I have food, he doesn’t go away.
It seems to me that in life, pretending is something we do regularly when faced with difficulties we don’t have an easy answer for. We act as if the problem isn’t there. Whatever symptoms it presents, we ignore and then continue in the direction we want to go.
Unfortunately, pretending in life, as I tried with my pup, does not work. When we ignore problems they usually get worse. The best answer is to face them head on, pray for wisdom, get good advice and follow through with whatever it takes to solve the dilemma.
Far better to be real than trapped in make believe. The truth really does set you free.
