Dear Editor,By the time you’re reading this, the election . . .
is over. Here’s hoping that you voted for the person or party that you want to win. Somebody will be declared the winner and will assume office soon. Now begins the real work of building and maintaining our communities. Think of the elected officials as cheerleaders in a basketball game. It was before, and is still, the players on the court who dribble down the floor and shoot a three-pointer from the suburbs, or drive on downtown and slam-dunk it. The players on the court? That’s us. The citizens who actually live here.
Don’t expect the government to fix all the problems, or begin glorious new endeavours. Only people can do that. Don’t let politicians take credit or blame for the things that people do. Just take responsibility for your own world, because that’s the way it is, no matter what the ads or the internet tells you.
