SHAWVILLE June 3, 2018
Though provincial election season is still in its infancy, voting is underway in Shawville for the council seat three, left vacant after the sudden passing of former councillor Peggie Sheppard in March.
Advance polls took place at Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School on May. 3, with 229 out of 1,285 eligible voters turning up to perform their civic duty.
Three candidates have put their name forward and have been vigorously canvassing the local electorate through social media, signage and good, old-fashioned, door-to-door solicitation.
Sherwin Greer is a former municipal employee and grader operator for the Municipality of Clarendon, who’s also served on the Fair board and Kinsmen. William McCleary is a former councillor and mayoral candidate who lost to current mayor Sandra Murray by 16 votes in last year’s election. Aileen Sheppard is an event planning and wedding coordinator who has organized a local breast cancer fundraiser for the past 12 years.
Residents can cast their ballots at regular polls in the gymnasium of Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School on June 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Results will be tallied starting at 8:15.
