The Municipality of Pontiac is looking to encourage visitors to the region with a new promotional tool.
On July 4, the municipality launched the first edition of its tourist road map, which highlights local businesses and services throughout the area. Dominic Labrie, head of communications for the municipality, said that the project has been in the works for several months.

The Municipality of Pontiac recently launched a tourist road map to promote visitors to the region. From left: Pierre-Yvon and Helene Alary, owners of the Sucrerie Alary, Mayor Roger Larose and Paul Desjardins of the Quyon Ferry pose with a copy of the map.

“We’ve got 5,000 copies. Half of it will go to every address in the municipality,” he explained. “The rest will be distributed at the Pontiac Country Fair, at the Quyon Ferry, in dépanneurs, with Outaouais tourism, Pontiac Tourism and the NCC.”
He said that the map has been in the works for about two months and was a joint effort with the publisher Éditions Média Plus Communication, who have worked on similar projects with municipalities throughout Quebec.
“We signed a contract with a private company, they help municipalities to promote themselves and produce different types of material. This year it will be the map because we think we should do better at tourism,” he said. “Next year it will be a calendar presenting municipal council meetings, garbage collection… stuff like that.”
“What’s neat with that is that it costs nothing for ratepayers because the private company in charge is responsible for finding advertisers, design and printing,” he added. “We just have to provide the map and the text and stuff like that.”
He also said that local photographer Cheryl Dolan did a stand-up job contributing many of the photos for the project.
The map can be found on the municipality’s website and hard copies will be available at the town hall and several other locations in the coming weeks.
