As a young child, visiting my gramma, I remember playing out back on the remains of an old Model T Ford. It was just a shell but it had a steering wheel and I would pretend I was driving. Later as a teen, I practised on my dad’s standard shift, learned, and passed my driver’s test.
From childhood fantasy to adult reality we all learn a way to steer through life. Some of us don’t get a lot of good training and we figure out how to live on our own. The adults are busy with their own struggles, so we come to conclusions that work for us.
For a time we’re comfortable in the driver’s seat, as we maneuver to make it through life. But we can miss the point of it all and end up in some kind of a wreck wondering how it all happened?
When I head out with my car on the road I cannot do just what I think is best. I have to follow the rules of the road. In the same way, the Author of life sets out boundaries on how to live life so that we will travel safely to Him. He promises that when we choose His way, He will meet our needs and be our guide. When God takes the driver’s seat we are sure to make it home!
