SHAWVILLE Sept. 9, 2017
A handful of eager cyclists gathered on the PPJ in Shawville Saturday morning for the fifth bicycle tour put on by Les Amies Cycloparc PPJ.
Dubbed the Lake Tour, the route took participants up Hwy. 303 through Ladysmith and Otter Lake and down Hwy. 301, ending in Campbell’s Bay, with several rest stops in between. Around ten participants were ready to roll at the 10 a.m. departure time, looking undaunted by the 50 km of riding ahead of them.
Organizer Tiziana Fortin-Rompelberg said that the route was unique among the other tours, in that it followed the highway rather than the PPJ.
“This is one of the most popular tours for people with racing bikes because it’s on the road,” she said. “It’s hard to go on the PPJ with a bike with small tires.”
She was especially excited for this tour as she would be taking part herself.
“Most of the time I’ve been in the follow car,” she explained. “I’m looking forward to it.”
She added that the final tour will take place on Calumet Island on October 7.
“We will all dress up for the Halloween atmosphere,” she said.
In addition, participants that have accumulated the most kilometres over all six of the Jamboree PPJ tours will be awarded prizes.
