Folklorist, curator and musician Shelley Posen will take you back 50 years to his sojourn in Chapeau, at the time one of the last great repositories of traditional Irish, English, and French song in North America, on a par with Newfoundland and the Maritimes, Appalachia and the American South. He will describe this tradition, and will sing and play some of the ballads and songs he heard from members of the last generation to work in the logging camps and sing unaccompanied to each other and their families in their homes and village. To register, find the Facebook event titled “That Village of Fame: Ballads, Singers and History – Chapeau, Quebec 1975”. Who knows? You might even make it a habit!
