Coronation Hall in Bristol was packed Friday night for a concert celebrating Canada 150.
Over 50 people came out to hear the musical stylings of the Des Allen Band, who played a wide range of classic country tunes.
Murray Hodgins, who works with the band, said that they had performed the Canada Day weekend at a fundraiser for the Villa James Shaw project and were eager to book another local gig.
“We all grew up here,” he said.
“[The band is] all originally from Shawville, but two of them live in Ottawa now.”
He said they had originally set out 40 chairs, but were forced to scramble for more as locals flocked to the hall. Volunteers from the Bristol Community Association ensured that none of the guests went thirsty, providing a plethora of libations for the assembled music-lovers.
Norma Graham, owner of Coronation Hall, said that when the band approached her, she had been more than happy to provide the venue.
“We’re really happy to have dances back in the hall,” she said.
