It’s that time of year. I can tell. Something is changing … yes the weather, but that’s not what I mean. Strangers start to talk . . .
to you in the shops. It happened this past week. A woman, whom I had never met before, smiled at me and said, “Christmas is expensive.” I smiled back. She’s right. But I wasn’t thinking about the presents we look for in the store. Rather my mind went back to the manger in Bethlehem when God broke into history some 2,000 years ago.
Jesus chose to leave His glory behind. He took on humanity, and as a baby was placed in a humble manger. He grew, lived about 33 years among us, then after going about healing and forgiving, He gave His life to redeem us. It was expensive alright. It cost Him everything.
I don’t know how to turn all the busyness around that we experience at this time of year, but somehow, when all is still, when our head hits the pillow, letting the reason for the season change our perspective can bring real peace and joy to our world.
