This past weekend, the Pontiac Community Players performed four sold-out shows of their latest production Boeing, Boeing at the Pontiac High School auditorium.
The play is an influential comedy written by French playwright Marc Camoletti. The plot centres on Bernard (played by Grant Moore) a man romantically involved with three different airline stewardesses, Gloria, Gabriella and Gretchen (played by Emma Findlay, Sarah Malatesta, and Sydney Côté respectively) without them knowing. Circumstances conspire so that all three are in town at the same time and hilarity ensues as Bernard, along his visiting friend Robert (Matt Lafleur) and his maid Berthe (Christine Rieux) try to contain the mayhem.
The shows ran from Thursday to Saturday evening with a matinee on Saturday afternoon.
Co-director Leona Lalonde said the play, which was her first in the director’s chair, went incredibly well.
“I’m so proud of it. I didn’t think I could be this proud as a director because I’ve always been onstage and not offstage, but it’s been amazing,” she said.
She spoke highly of the cast and crew for the work that they’d put in over the previous months.
“I don’t have words to explain how happy and excited and proud I feel of this accomplishment,” she said. “They did great, I wouldn’t have picked a different cast.”
Co-director Greg Graham agreed with Lalonde.
“It’s been amazing, I feel like they’ve taken the Pontiac Community Players to another level,” he said. “The acting, the timing, the crew, all the little pieces coming together. To watch them improve and get so comfortable with each other that they really trust each other, that they can play with their characters, I’m so proud of them.”
He added that on opening night they had a group of residents from the nearby long-term care facility in Shawville attend, which was special for all involved.
“It was really heartwarming for everyone, for them to come out to that,” he said.
