Dear Will Amos, M.P.,
After reading the letter on page 4 of the Sept. 30 issue of THE EQUITY by Jenny Lacroix, a granddaughter of Caesar Paul, a well known. . .
Algonquin hunter and trapper in our area, I googled UNDRIP to learn what Jenny was referring to.
UNDRIP is the United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous Peoples from Sept. 13, 2007 which was endorsed by Canada in 2010. UNDRIP Article 26 states that Indigenous people have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned occupied or otherwise acquired.
Caesar Paul’s ancestors settled in Pontiac in the 1870s and continued on from generation to generation.
Why does the Ministère de l’Énergie et Des Resources Naturelles deny the Paul family land tenure rights and refuse title to their land? Can you help them get the recognition they deserve?
