Belated birthday greetings to Rosemary Tallon Trottier who celebrated her birthday on Oct. 7.
Happy birthday to Larry Larochelle who will be 97 years young on Oct. 16. At the Saturday evening mass in Sheen everyone joined in singing happy birthday to him. He is still driving himself to Sheen from Pembroke, Ont. to take in mass or to spend a day at his cottage.
Birthday wishes go out to our daughter-in-law Michelle Ranger on Oct 20 and to Mary Edwards on Oct. 22.
On Saturday morning, I had the occasion to chat with George Quay of Ohio at Karl’s Bakery. Nice that he was able to come and spend a few days in Sheen.
On Saturday, Pontiac West Marketing (Allumette Island, Chichester, Sheenboro Municipalities) planned a bus trip. The tour began with a lovely breakfast served to all at the Island Brae Golf Club, then to St Joseph’s Cemetery and Church. The Desjardins wharf “back in time” to see a barge come across from Ontario with a tractor and truck, was definitely a highlight. The group had a nice lunch served by volunteers at the Chapeau Rectory and a tour and history of St. Alphonsus Church was given by Mary Lou Durocher Morin.
The bus left the island and headed off to the Culbute Museum in Chichester. There they were served wine by gracious hosts while checking out the new historic wall displays. The group visited The Beagle, the home of the Wednesday night fiddling jams. The tour ended by taking the scenic route by Northfork through Nichabau village, around the beautiful lakes in Sheenboro to arrive at their destination, the Sheen Hall.
The hall was decorated with a beautiful display of local quilts and tea break consisted of an assortment of homemade cookies, tea, coffee and hot apple cider. Thank you to Cindy Wheeler and the Sheen Fiddlers for providing the entertainment. It was a great ending for a lovely day.
I would also like to mention that each municipality had a spokesperson on the bus, Sam McGuire, Neil Maloney and Jack Brennan did a great job giving the history and entertainment as well. The Warden of the Pontiac, Jane Toller, who made the complete tour commented that it was well organized and thanked all the volunteers for their efforts put in to marketing the Upper Pontiac.
