Quyon- Jillian Young

On Thursday, my sister Kara, cousin Patti, and I hosted a bridal shower in honour of our cousin, Tessa Young. We held a traditional Young family “dessert shower”, much like the ones Tessa’s grandmother, Brenda Young, held for many of our family members over the years. Everyone had a lovely evening as we showered Tessa with gifts and good wishes. Her big day is quickly approaching, as she and Chris Romain will be married on Aug. 30. We are so excited for Tessa and Chris and can’t wait to celebrate with them on their special day.

The Quyon Lions Club held their annual ATV Poker Run on Saturday, and after the deluge of rain on Friday, it was nice to see the skies clear and they had a beautiful day for it. Participants enjoyed breakfast sandwiches at the Quyon Legion before taking off on the Poker Run, which included stops at the Ladysmith Hotel, Astra Estates Golf Course in Norway Bay, and Mylvia Restaurant in Lac des Loups. They returned to the Quyon Legion for a pulled pork dinner and presentation of prizes at the end of the day. Kudos to the Quyon Lions for organizing the event, which was enjoyed by many.

Saturday evening, Gavan’s Hotel featured the band Chicken Fried on-stage, and there was a great crowd out to enjoy the music and fun. They also had a chicken fried sandwich special on the menu, keeping with the band’s theme. It was a terrific night to let loose and have a good time. For those that enjoyed the music, I hear Chicken Fried will be returning to the Gavan’s stage for their New Year’s Eve party, so mark your calendars.

Birthday wishes are going out to Troy Cote on Aug. 16, and to Rylie McCann on the 17th. We are sending lots of love and birthday wishes to Susan Hamilton in St. Margaret’s Bay, NS, as she celebrates on Aug. 18. Happy birthday to Oliver Brownlee on the 14th, to my cousin Dillon Draper on the 15th, and to Wayne Hobbs on the 19th. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.

The Quyon Community Association will be hosting Community Day on Sept. 7. The event will feature live local music, the popular “Wall of Wonderful” prize draw, activities in the park, and a meal served by the Quyon Lions Club. At the same time, Quyon Sports & Rec will be holding a 3-pitch over at the ball diamonds. It promises to be a great day with more details to come, so stay tuned for that. I’m already looking forward to it.

Waltham – Helen Perry

On Saturday, the Waltham R.A. held its Summerfest event. It took place at Paul Ryan Park. There were many activities such as kids activities, a BBQ, live entertainment provided by the Barn Burners, a horseshoe tournament, volleyball, pickleball and a lot more. It was a beautiful sunny day and the temperature was just right, however, two sudden rain storms burst on to the park, sending visitors to find cover from the storm. In the end, the rain clouds moved on and the festivities continued late into the evening.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Clarisse Veronica Mary (Caye) Dupuis Denault. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Denault. Clarisse was originally from Waltham and was living in Ottawa. She was a lovely person always ready to help others. Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with her children, grandchildren, family and friends at this difficult time.
