We were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Gwen O’Leary (nee Hearty), of Vinton, Que. She was the beloved wife of the late Ken O’Leary. Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with her daughter Dina, (Andrew Gregson), granddaughter Grace, family and friends at this time.

Waltham is saddened to hear of the passing of Joanne Harkins (nee Bertrand). She was the beloved wife of Richard (Ricky) Harkins and the dearly loved mother of Brianna, Brittany, and Brandon. Joanne was a devoted mother to her family and she had an infectious smile. She will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends at this time.

In last week’s social notes, I was reading that Lyse Lacourse, Shawville Social Notes Correspondent, was awarded a correspondent award for documenting her fight with cancer at the Quebec Community Newspaper Award Association’s annual gala. Congratulations Lyse!
On Thursday, the birthday club met at the Waltham Station. Greta Masseau was the birthday girl this month. Everyone enjoyed a tasty lunch and lovely birthday cake.
On Thursday evening, family and friends gathered at Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Church to witness eight young children receiving the sacrament of Confirmation.
His Excellency Bishop Michael Mulhall performed the sacrament assisted by Fr. Réal Oullette and deacon Justin Bertrand. The children that received the sacrament were; Jacob Chenier, Owen Duff, Brody Pilon, Jordan Pilon, Melissa Pilon, Nicholas Pilon, Amber Robinson and Anthony Turner. Congratulations is extended to all of you. The celebration was followed by refreshments and a beautifully decorated cake.
Our little neighbour Abbie Rochon is celebrating her seventh birthday today. Enjoy your special day Abbie.

I cannot believe another school year has come to an end. I sure hope that the students enjoy a fun-filled summer. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the teachers, noon hour supervisors, custodians and the bus drivers. May you all enjoy a well deserved rest.
