What an amazing Shawville Fair weekend that was! The weather was terrific, and the crowds were out in droves to take in all of the entertainment the Fair had to offer. I know my nieces and nephews had lots of fun in the midway, while I enjoyed taking in some of the music, having a few treats, and visiting with family and friends. One of my favourite parts of the Fair are the handicraft exhibits, and it was especially exciting this year to see that one of the quilts my friend Lindsay Hamilton entered won first in its class, as well as Best in Show. Way to go Lindsay! It was also a highlight to see this year’s Shawville Fair Ambassador, Molly Dowe, strolling around and representing the Fair so well. Congratulations again Molly. It’s hard to believe it’s all over again for another year. Whether you were at the Fair or enjoying some relaxation, I hope you all had a great Labour Day weekend.
Birthday wishes are going out to Raymie Duquette and Hayden Hobbs, both celebrating on Sept. 9. Happy birthday to my bro Luke Young on Sept. 10, as well as to Donna Kennedy on the 11th. We also have birthday wishes going out to Cassandra McKay on the 14. I’d like to give a special shout-out to Eric and Donna Provost, as they celebrated 50 years of marriage on Sept. 3. One big weekend is down, and we have another coming up. This coming Saturday, Sept. 12th, the Quyon Community Association will be hosting Community Day, and it is going to be a fantastic day of music and fun. The line-up of musical entertainment will be starting at 1 p.m., including Lorne Brady & friends, Barry Teevens & friends, Cal Cummings, Lorne Daley, The Saggy Bottom Boys, Larry Chevrier & Arnold Trudeau, Jessica Pearson & the East Wind, Valley Mountain, and Chicken Fried. Bring your lawn chairs and settle in for the day. A delicious Roast Beef Dinner will be served by the Quyon Lions Club, and pre-orders are recommended. There will also be the ever-popular Wall of Wonderful, games and activities in the park, and on top of it all, Quyon Sports & Rec will be hosting a 3-pitch tournament at the ball fields. To add to the excitement, the fireworks display that was postponed on Canada Day due to weather will be held that night at dusk at the Quyon River. It is a jam-packed schedule of fun from start to finish, and I am so looking forward to it. Hope to see you there!
