A surprise party was held at the fairgrounds in Quyon in honour of Garry Trudeau’s 70th birthday on Saturday. Garry was surrounded by a big crowd of family and friends as he marked this special birthday, with many camping there for the night as they celebrated with the birthday boy. Cheers to Garry on his 70th.
On Saturday evening, an engagement party was held for Victoria McIntyre and Ryan Racine. They were surrounded by their family and friends as they celebrated their commitment to one another. Wishing Tori and Ryan all the best as they begin to plan for their big day.
Congratulations to Angela Storing and Shawn Fleury, as they were married on Saturday at Starborn Farms in Bristol. The happy couple exchanged vows in a beautiful outdoor ceremony, and then celebrated with their loved ones with a reception that followed. Best wishes to the newlyweds.
Birthday wishes are going out to Hannah Lang on Aug. 28 and to Denis Renaud on the 29th. Happy birthday to Georgia Fleck and Olivia Gravelle, both celebrating on Aug. 31. We also have birthday wishes going out to Atlas and Nixon Davis, Reese MacKechnie, and Stacy Johnston, all on Sept. 1. Happy days to all who are celebrating special occasions this week.
Over the next week or so, our local students, teachers, and staff will be starting to return to the classrooms again. Where did that summer go? It flew by so quickly. Wishing all of you a great year, and a special shout-out to the Onslow students and staff who are going to be travelling to McDowell School this year while the school building in Quyon is undergoing repairs. We hope you have a smooth transition, and that you’re back home at Onslow soon!
The Quyon Community Association has been sharing exciting details for the upcoming Community Day on Sept. 12. It has been confirmed that the fireworks which were postponed on Canada Day due to weather will now be happening at dusk on Community Day. Now there’s even more reason to come out and enjoy this fantastic day. There will be music on-stage throughout the afternoon and evening, including Lorne Brady & friends, Barry Teevens & friends, Cal Cummings, Lorne Daley, The Saggy Bottom Boys, Larry Chevrier & Arnold Trudeau, Jessica Pearson & the East Wind, Valley Mountain, and Chicken Fried. Dinner will be served by the Quyon Lions Club, and there will also be the Wall of Wonderful, as well as games and activities in the park. On top of it all, Quyon Sports & Rec will be hosting a 3-pitch tournament on the same weekend, which only adds to the excitement. It is shaping up to be an amazing day in Quyon, and I can’t wait.
