The Donkey Baseball game sponsored by the Shawville Rotary Club on Friday night was a riot of fun. The 2,000 or more people who made up the crowd around the circle in the exhibition grounds said it was an enjoyable evening.
The scores were made by base runners on donkeys going the round of bases, these being “Red” Dale and Irwin Watson and the half-score went to Pete Murrell, who unable to get his donkey to proceed, carried him around the bases.
There were many spills, some had difficulty getting on their donkeys, and many donkeys refused to go where they ought to go and had to be pushed, pulled or carried to the bases. Often the crowd howled with merriment at the strange things that happened.
