The Way We Were:

Local News: The 69th annual fair held in Shawville this week in several respects was inferior to the attainments of past years. This was due in the main to the early dates decided upon this year, and to the agricultural season being at least a fortnight later than usual.

Whilst the fair suffered considerably from this cause, it also lost in attendance through the absence of a large proportion of the farming community, who, doubtless, felt that the saving of their harvest was of greater importance to them than that Shawville Fair should be favoured with a good, fat gate receipt.

The program of attractions in the show ring was much the same as in former years and claimed its quota of spectators. To the delight of the youngsters, the Society merry-go-round overcame its indisposition of last year and performed fairly good service. The crowning attraction of the fair from the amusement standpoint, was the baseball tournament in which four teams took part, the trophy being a handsome silver cup presented by the Society. Frazer-Brace had a string of 24 runs to their credit and thus secured the silverware by a wide margin.

The following young ladies left on Wednesday morning to take the teachers course at Macdonald College: Winnifred Hamilton, Jessie Horner, Mona Eades, Marjorie Imison, Amy Hodgins, Gladys Strutt and Iva Eades.
