The Way We Were:

Local News: The weather man did not give the opening of the Pontiac County Fair at Shawville a good break.

All Wednesday, the first day, it drizzled or poured rain alternately so that one could not be out long before he was wet through.

Thursday morning dawned sunny and cool, and as it was Children’s Day, a free day, the boys and girls were making their way through the gates quite early until a large number were, with many adults, on the grounds by noon.

G.A. Howard, prominent Shawville citizen dies after short illness: George Alfred Howard, widely known Shawville business and sportsman, and twice a Conservative party candidate for the Quebec Legislative Assembly, died on Tuesday afternoon of last week in Pontiac Community Hospital after a short illness.
He was in his 79th year. Mr. Howard was mayor of Shawville for a number of terms and for years was a commissioner on the school board.
