Local news: The sudden death of Mr. Samuel Wilson, of Green Lake, removes another of the old settlers of Clarendon. The deceased gentleman was preparing to retire about half past eight o’clock of the date mentioned, when he suddenly expired, heart failure being the apparent cause. He had reached the advanced age of 84 years and some months. His funeral, largely attended, took place on Thursday afternoon to St. Paul’s church, thence to the cemetery opposite, where the remains were consigned to Mother Earth, with the customary solemn services.
Greermount: St. Stephen’s Church Tower is nearing completion. The stone work was done by Messrs. Findlay of Shawville and the roofing by the Dale Bros. also of Shawville. A little more carpentry is needed, then the Bell will be hoisted and we will be glad to hear the peels over the hills.
They are big ones: Mr. William Dagg, who owns and resides on Lot 6, Range 11, Clarendon, brought us a parcel of potatoes last week to be placed on record as a sample of the fruits of the present year’s bountiful harvest, for which, by the way, our friends the Grits are trying to claim credit.
The tubers, five in number, are a magnificent lot, without spot or blemish, and weigh exactly 6 pounds. Mr. Dagg says the potatoes are merely a sample of the crop, and he would like to hear if any other farmer can produce anything better in that line.
Notice: As the Shawville photo gallery has been vacated for some time on account of the illness of the present photographer, the undersigned wishes to notify the public and the photographers of the different places that the gallery will be rented to the first good man who comes along. Chances for business never were better.
