The Way We Were:

Early results from 118th Shawville Fair: The horse drawing event Thursday night at Shawville Fair was a very successful affair for Ken Green of Richmond who won fifty dollars for first placed in the light horse class and another forty dollars for second in the heavy horse class.

Lucille Ryan (Mrs. Danny Ryan) of Fort Coulonge, was the lucky winner of the money doll draw at Shawville Fair on Sunday night. This was sponsored by the Shawville Lionettes Club.

The tractor pull Saturday night at Shawville drew the biggest crowd of the fair, made the most noise and created the most excitement. Winner of the Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Hodgins Memorial Trophy, donated by their son Loren B. Hodgins, was Chris Judd who was winner of the 5,000 stock tractor pull followed by Courtnay Wade, Lorne Wilson and Harold Wilson.

Also competing in this year’s big tractor pull at Shawville Fair were Howard Wilson, Arnott Hynes, Vincent Coulis, Bill Sheppard, Ronald Normandeau, Glen Yach, Terry MacDougall, Bob Tracy and Leo Fortin, all of whom helped to make this event a tremendous success.

Softball award night: A large majority of the softball men’s team players, wives and friends attended the annual award banquet at the hotel in Fort Coulonge on Saturday evening with William Hayward, President of the association as emcee and Brian Adams speaker for tournament.

Awards were given to all M.V. players in the individual teams of Fort Coulonge, Waltham, Allumette Island and Chapeau.
