The Way We Were:

Local News: Mr. Hubert Way has taken over the Mail Service from Shawville to Otter Lake, which has been performed by Mr. Joseph Gilpin for several years in a most satisfactory manner.

Several very heavy thunderclaps were heard here during the midnight storm of Wednesday last — one particularly, as the boys say, was “a peach” and put several of the street lights out of business; yet strange to relate, there were citizens in this town who serenely slept through it all and didn’t experience a jar!

Somewhere in the records of the village Council there is a resolution or by-law, making it a punishable offence to use profane or obscure language on the streets, or loiter a round Church doors during service hours. Of late there has been far too much of this sort of thing going on and some action should be taken to stop it, if the village is not to be run by a bunch of hudlums.

The annual Fair of the Quyon Agricultural Society, held on the 3rd instant, showed appreciable progress over last year’s effort, both in point of exhibits and attendance, according to estimates given to THE EQUITY by parties who were present from this neighborhood. In addition to the Society’s exhibits, a very good show was put on by the school children, and boys’ and girls’ club. Those who were out for a day ’s fun were supplied with entertainment by way of horse races and other amusements, and with excellent weather, a very pleasant day was spent.
